Banana supporters' plans were a fraud on us
By Oto Octavian
The late president Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, upon attainment of
independence, told us to forgive but not forget.
And as Kenyans, after such a massive win, in effect giving the
Orange team our mandate to spearhead a new effort at crafting a new
constitution, must forgive our brothers and sisters from Central
Province for massively voting to entrench dictatorship, tribalism
and corruption, in a Kenya where we other Kenyans are striving to
build one cohesive society.
As we forgive, we must remind the pushers of the Banana agenda that
they do not have any moral authority to tell us anything more. Their
thoughts, aspirations and roadmaps were a fraud on Kenyans.
But in winning, the Orange Team must include all shades of opinions
in our search for a new constitution. We must reach out to the
Banana Team, the discredited clerics, and others. But we must not
let them take charge, for when they took charge, they drove us 180
degrees back to Golgotha.
As we heal the process, it is equally sad to note how some of our
friends from Central Province think. I want to quote Amos Kimunya
and leave judgement to you the reader:
Speaking from Kipipiri, Kimunya said the "Orange camp should stop
celebrating because they did not win in the referendum", adding that
it was Kenyans who rejected the constitution.
Such statements are unnecessary, since in any contest, the person
leading with one point wins. But again, this is ethnic arrogance for
you. As we forgive, we must note the voting pattern of certain
communities. By statistics, we have 2.6m registered one tribe voters
in Kenya, both in central and in the diaspora. Out of this,
2.578,831 voted to entrench dictatorship, tribalism and corruption,
hence voting to isolate Kenyans from partaking of the National Cake.
Again, out of eight provinces, it is only Central Province which
voted for one of their own instead of voting for Kenya. Kenyans must
note this, for the Draft was bad for Kenya, but Mount Kenya voted
for it almost to a man.
As we forgive the Banana group, we must know that they do not have
the interest of Kenya at heart. They are pre-occupied by power,
greed for power and more greed for power, to an extent that they
imagined that their numbers could make them vomit at will on our
shoes.
But Kenyans have noted this. And the more they take IDs and voters
cards to create mischief, the more Kenyans will also take IDs and
voters cards to defend Kenya from ethnic greed. Do you realise that
the Mount Kenya groups have just been shocked, but they are not
remorseful. I bet this is the time some sober educated of their lot
came out of the village mentality, and joined Kenyans genuinely. For
we need one Kenya that all of us can call home.
I am not being hard on them, but they must learn that being openly
greedy does not help. What is the point of having all the Permanent
Secretaries at the OP being of one tribe only? Is this not a
national office?
Can't even the journalists complain? To people like Koigi, the loss
is too much to accept. He chooses to go on a hunger strike, instead
of waking up from the stupor he was in. Others like Maina Kiai
pretend not to understand that the Orange team by winning so
massively, have been mandated by Kenyans to spearhead the new
process. But this is the kind of people I am talking about for you.
I am not preaching tribal annihilation, as Radio Citizen glorified
Kikuyu Supremacy, and nobody raised a voice against this, but the
fact is that the Mt Kenya have given all of us Kenyans the KISS of
the Serpernt.
This must be said as we promote national unity and cohecion, so that
these people may know, that Kenyans are disappointed. They pretended
to fight for a better Kenya with us, but voted almost to a man in
defence of ``their'' President, one of their own, instead of
defending Kenya as a nation.
It is Kibaki who dashed the Kenyans' hopes by wanting to legalise
dictatorship, reinventing tribalism and defending and promoting
corruptuon. The buck stops at his office.
As we forgive, we must ask, what is the point of taking all the plum
ministerial dockets, parastatal appointments, foreign postings,
judicial appointments, security postings, name it? The Mt Kenya will
take all without thinking that there are other tribes in Kenya.
By massively voting Orange, Kenyans have once more brought back
Kenya to Kenyans. And in this healing process, let sober Kenyans
protest and inform the President that talent abounds beyond the
environs of Mount Kenya.
