Open letter to Raila concerning Kisumu Mobs, School Children etc!
Dear Mr. Odinga:
It is with great sadness to notify you that some mobs masquerading as your supporters are terrorizing residents of Kisumu City indiscriminately. As of this writing, the mobs had gone to Kisumu schools and ejected innocent pupils whose only sin was to pursue knowledge through formal learning. The mobs were chanting: “No Raila No School, No Raila No Work! Schools will open when Raila gets to State House!”
Mr. Odinga, the entire world is watching what’s going on in Kenya. This is no longer a KBC/NationaTV/KTN coverage—the whole world is watching what is happening in Naivasha, Kisumu, Nairobi, etc. What is perplexing to many of us is that you have allowed marauding youths to use your name as they commit serious crimes against innocent residents of Kisumu. I honestly do not agree with any acts of hooliganism committed against any Kenyan. It is an injustice and if you are in deed fighting for Justice, let charity begin at home. These young men terrorizing Kisumu are supposedly what is commonly referred to as “Railafanatics”. Without mincing words, let me acknowledge that these are your supporters, and as such, you must address them directly because if you don’t the world will judge you accordingly. You must leave the comfort and security of Nairobi City and travel to Kisumu (Manyatta, Kondele, etc) and address these hooligans DIRECTLY without having a rally in Kisumu. You must be stern with these hooligans or we will assume that you condone their criminal behavior, and hold you indirectly responsible for the destruction of our beautiful city of Kisumu.
Mr. Odinga sir, we can not justify and condone the destruction of Kisumu by Luos just because other people are causing mayhem in other parts of Kenya. As the main Leader in ODM, and as the People’s President, I ask you to take the Lead in talking to your core supporters (Railafanatics) and ask them to maintain civility at all times. If you do this, other leaders within ODM ranks will be obligated and motivated to go back to their supporters and ask them to maintain Peace and Civility. In this call sir, you can not wait for Mwai Kibaki to take a leadership position—it is you who Kenyans voted for and it is you who MUST be the moral leader of our nation. This is a bigger role for you than ascending to the Presidency. Your voice is the biggest weapon we can use to fight the Injustices being committed in our communities. Please, take leadership position and address the core bedrock of your supporters in Kisumu and demand from them to be civilized. You can not “chill” in Nairobi when your city is burning--- Kisumu is no longer what it used to be, it is a ghost town, a place that has retrogressed at least 40 years backwards. This city is too strategic for East Africa to be destroyed by hooligans calling themselves “Railafanatics!”.
Respectfully,
